UCL Press: Your Ticket to Knowledge!
UCL Press:
Fueling Your Postgraduate Journey,
One Book at a Time!
Would you like to spend half an hour over coffee with some of the world's brightest minds, from one of the best universities?
Maybe you're curious about the latest advancements in your field since graduation, or you're intrigued by disciplines you never had the chance to explore. Or perhaps, like me, you're simply a book lover at heart.
Hey, we all have our little quirks!
Did I catch your interest? Excellent!
Let me introduce you to a true gem! Welcome to UCL Press, the first open-access academic press!
Yes, you read that right. OPEN ACCESS!
Established in 2015, University College London Press is committed to global education, lifelong learning, and bridging the gap between students and academics.
How does it work? (Keep your eyes peeled for my article on the future of Open Access publishing! Out soon!)
Let's do a deep dive! I'm going to show you two ways to procure books from this awesome website. Ready?
1. Download strait from their site!
You will be interested in this option if
- you don't mind reading in PDF format on your computer or device
- you don't want to support Amazon. (Hey, I hear ya!)
- you want to be able to send the book from one device to another for convenient reading.
Let's get started!
Go ahead and jump to their website here!
Scroll down and select browse all books below!
Now we are at the main book page. Scroll down and you will see more than 300 books available for your perusal. Books are listed in reverse chronological order, with the newest at the top. On the left is a bar where you can filter by category.
Let's ignore that for a second. You are free to select any book you wish, but for the purposes of this post, let's focus on museum studies.
It looks like there are two books in this category. I'm interested in the one about collections management, published last year. So, let's click it!
We arrive at a profile on the book which shows us the cover, the date it was published below, and to the right the title, the lead authors or editors, and a blurb on what the book is about. Notice that at the very top we are told what category the book is under, so that we can click on that category, "Museum and Heritage Studies" to find related books.
A complete table of contents...
We have two options, either to download a PDF or make a purchase.
Choose download a PDF
And presto, your book appears in a separate tab! Just save it to your computer's hard drive, and you can read it whenever you want.
(Repeat these same instructions with whatever device you read on. Or, you know, just save it to Google Drive!)
Clicking on purchase shows you the price to buy a hard copy.
40 BP! Ouch!!!
But, just for you, I'll show you a better option!
2. Purchase via Amazon!
- You will be interested in this if you want to keep all your digital books in one place.
- You are interested in easy access.
- You like supporting evil corporations.
Let's go!
Go to the Amazon Homepage!
Type the title into the search bar at the top!
Make the purchase. It should be about $1 or 1 BP.
And presto, it will show up in your Kindle library!
Happy reading!!!
Have an awesome day!!!

*Note: at this time this particular book is not available on Kindle until later this year. Sorry: I had bought this previously. It should be available via the first option.
